Road Tripping with Ella: Food on the go!

We are now in full swing prepping for our first ever Tents & Tacos/Ella the Element Camping Road Trip. Our 5 year plan is to be able to travel often across the US to visit friends and family in a small RV or possibly in Ella and this is our first test!

Today's let's talk camping and road trip food prep!

We've made some upgrades in the last few months to our food situation:

1. A high performance cooler

We got this one from Walmart because I just can't justify Yeti prices. So far it's held up well at the beach for a week and on two other camping trips! It fits on the cooler holder for Serenity the tent trailer but also takes up minimal space in the back of Ella. I like the size - perfect for a week of food for the 2 of us.

2. A better way to make coffee

For the past few years we've been using a cheap silicone drip system like this one but frankly, it's kind of a pain. Pouring over the mug is tricky because you can't see how full you've gotten it and it's really easy to make a mess. This summer we upgraded to a Stanley french press and I'm never going back!

3. Hot food on the go

We were looking for an easy and quick way to have a hot meal on the go for this upcoming 6 day road trip. We want to eat a little healthier, avoid people since we'll be traveling (COVID) and not have to do a lot of dishes. Low and behold, I found this during a random web search! Apparently this little gadget has a HUGE web following made up of RVers, truckers and others who can't get to a microwave and are tired of cold lunches and dinners on the go. A coworker also vouched for it. We tried it out on a premade frozen breakfast sandwich this week and it was great! We also picked up a few glass containers with lids from Marshalls and are making and freezing some of our favorite home meals to toss in the Hot Logic in the morning and have a hot lunch or dinner ready to go when we get to the parks! I picked up a few inverters so we can have it cooking while we're driving. Check out our Instagram in March for pics of our meals!
